Professor Ros Keeton has been appointed the new chairwoman of the board of trustees at Compton Care.

She has taken the reins from John Harris who stepped down after nine years on the board for the Wolverhampton charity.

Professor Keeton said: “I consider it to be a pleasure and a privilege to be appointed as chairwoman of Compton Care and I will work tirelessly to support Compton Care in serving our local communities.

“Palliative care in its many forms has featured in my portfolio throughout my career. I have a strong personal interest in working with people with incurable conditions and their friends and families to deliver high performance clinical care and excellent patient experience.”

Professor Keeton has served on Compton Care's board of trustees for two years, leading on research development and health and safety.

She is chairwoman of the BDA Benevolent Fund, is a visiting professor at Birmingham City University and a Fellow of Worcester University.

The new recruit also led Birmingham Women’s NHS Foundation Trust and Worcestershire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.

Professor Keeton said: “The board recognises the good care that many of our patients receive, however we have ambitions to build on this strong foundation and take Compton from good to great.

“Compton Care is a much respected and well-loved local charity. It is a fantastic asset and one that we must preserve and develop for future generations. The board is committed to establishing Compton as a national centre of excellence and a leader in palliative care in the UK.”.

“We believe everyone with a complex and incurable condition should have equal access to our services and we aim to meet and exceed the needs of our diverse community to achieve the best outcomes for our patients and their families.”

It comes after Compton Care, formerly Compton Hospice, launched a new three-year strategy to invest £4.5 million into improving the organisation’s services and buildings.

Compton Care Chief Executive Claire Marshall said: “This is an exciting time for Compton Care with a bold new vision, mission and strategy to develop our services now and in the future.

“I couldn’t be more delighted at the appointment of Professor Keeton, who has the passion, experience and energy to lead the board of trustees into a new era for Compton and I look forward to our working together to make a positive difference for our patients, their families and our community.”
