Compton Care on the lookout for more young fundraisers

Compton Care has launched a collection of awards to reach out to more people across the region.

The Wolverhampton-based charity wants to encourage young people to take up the baton and help raise the millions it needs to care for people in need.

Compton Care school liaison officer Vicki Wootton said: "At Compton we need to raise £7.9 million pounds every year.

"We do this by approaching our local communities, businesses and organisations and encouraging them to fundraise for us.

"When we began working with young people, we realised that fundraising offered ample opportunities for them to develop the skills and experience needed for their future careers. We wanted to empower them to achieve their dreams by nurturing these skills.

“The programme we have put together teach young people how to work as a team, plan and organise an event, communicate with difference audiences and learn how to budget, amongst various other transferable skills such as; teamwork, time keeping and problem solving.”

The Young Ambassador Award and Compton Champions Award programmes will encourage young people to support the charity while developing their skills.

Students on the Young Ambassador Award can take part in a range of activities, including volunteering and getting involved with a Compton event.

The Compton Champions Award will see young supporters host their own fundraising event, while a further programme for children aged five to 11 is currently being rolled out in primary schools.

Ms Wootton added: “Both the awards can help students to build confidence, learn about relationships, express their creativity, overcome their fears, try new activities, explore potential career paths and take action by making a positive difference in their local communities.

“At Compton we are excited to be launching this programme and looking forward to teaching young people about our services and the work that we do, whilst supporting them to fundraise, volunteer for us.

"Those who take part and complete the programme will receive a letter of achievement, which they can then use as part of their UCAS applications and on their CV’s.”

Compton Care, formerly Compton Hospice, supports people living with a complex, long term or incurable condition across the Black Country, Staffordshire and Shropshire.
