Sunny snap of Warley Woods shines in top competition

This stunning photograph was taken over Warley Woods and has won a prize in an international photography competition.

The picture, called 'Last Rays of Sun', was taken by landscape snapper Simon Lea, aged 43, from Bearwood.

Simon's Commended photograph, called 'Fire mist and ice mist'

He has captured a colourful and striking sunset over the 100-acre public park based near Smethwick, where the sun beams across the landscape lighting up the grass trees and tinted the sky in a purple hue.

It won Simon the the Humphry Repton in this year's International Garden Photographer of the Year competition.

Simon was also Highly Commended and Commended for two other photographers.

He said: "To win the award is absolutely amazing. The award is special. Humphy Repton was a guy that designed Warley Woods."

Simon, originally from Stoke, got into photography around six years ago.

He uses a high-end Nikon D7000 camera.

His award-winning photograph was taken last summer.
