A hero who came to the aid of a young boy injured in the Barcelona terror attack has said the events will live with him 'until his dying day'.

Harry Athwal, from Great Barr, witnessed the attack from his hotel on Las Ramblas.

He ran to the scene of the horrific attack to try to help the boy.

The 44-year-old father-of-two brought television presenter Kate Garraway to tears as he recounted his experiences this morning.

Mr Athwal said on Good Morning Britain: “I was instantly drawn to that child.

"I checked for a pulse, he didn’t have a pulse. I stroked his hair to see if I could comfort him.”

Mr Athwal's own son Khye is eight and he said he thought the injured child was the same age.

Ms Garraway said: “I know you’ve tried to find out the fate of this little lad, and it’s not clear at the moment what his fate is, but it’s obviously a very worrying situation.

“I can’t speak for the parents of that little boy, but if it was my little boy, I would love someone to be there in that situation.

“It’s a wonderful…sorry this is really unlike me. I got quite emotional. How has it affected you?”

Project manager Mr Athwal said he has been consumed by memories of the attack since it happened.

He said: “I think the last couple of nights, trying to sleep, it goes around in your head.

“It’s something I will never forget. It will stay with me until my dying day.”

Four alleged members of a terror cell accused of killing 15 people in attacks in Barcelona and a Spanish resort are due in court today – a day after the last missing member of the cell was shot dead down by police.

The men were arrested last week for their alleged involvement in the planning or execution of attacks in Barcelona on Thursday and the north-eastern resort town of Cambrils early on Friday.

They were appearing before National Court Judge Fernando Andreu in Madrid, who will decide whether they should be kept in custody or released, with or without conditions.
