Police kept busy as Britain First arrive in Wolverhampton - as it happened
Police, protesters and counter-protesters filled the streets of Wolverhampton today during a far-right demonstration in the city centre.
The Britain First 'day of action' began at 11am and the far-right group was joined by members of the United Against Fascism and Socialist Workers organisations once they started making their way through the city.
A large number of police officers were soon on the scene as the two groups navigated their way along busy shopping streets on a sunny Saturday lunchtime.
Around 20 to 30 people, including some holding white crosses, joined the Britain First group and chanted 'Britain First - fighting back' as they handed out leaflets and headed from Pipers Row down Castle Street towards the Wulfrun and Mander Centres.
Many shoppers looked on in bemusement while there were some angry scenes as others confronted the group and told them they weren't welcome in Wolverhampton.
A similarly-sized counter-protest group, armed with placards calling for unity and 'saying no to the Nazis', then came face-to-face with Britain First on Dudley Street.
