Number of cancelled ops at NewCross at all-time low

The number of cancelled operations at Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital has fallen to an all-time low.

Just 17 operations were postponed last month - the lowest on record - and four times lower than in May last year when 69 complaints were made.

The latest figures show a continued downward trend for the trust, with 33 cancellations in January, 20 in February, 29 in March and 24 in April.

Cheryl Etches, the trust's chief nurse, said: "This is excellent news. May was the best month we have ever had and this is clearly good news for patients."

Of the 17 cancellations, just over half were due to running out of theatre time, with no beds available and the arrival of more urgent cases also contributing to the total.

A report to the hospital board said: "This is a significant improvement compared with the same period last year. A root cause analysis

continues to be undertaken for every cancelled operation for non-medical reasons and continues to be reviewed weekly."
