Cyrille Regis hands over Baggies full of donated Easter eggs to charities
Baggies legend Cyrille Regis handed over Easter eggs collected in aid of sick children and families affected by domestic abuse.
Kind-hearted traders and shoppers at West Bromwich market donated 376 eggs as part of an appeal.
More than 45 traders, staff and shoppers filled an empty stall on the market with chocolate eggs and donated them to children at Sandwell Hospital and Black Country Women's Aid.
Albion legend Cyrille presented the eggs to the hospital and the domestic abuse charity at the market.
Amanda Winwood, membership academy manager at SWBH NHS Your Trust Charity said: "The trust is overwhelmed by the generosity of West Bromwich Indoor Market traders in organising this caring initiative to share a little chocolate happiness with sick children who are in hospital over Easter.
"A little treat can bring a smile to a face and help children forget about their illness or injury even if it is just for a short while. The West Bromwich community consistently demonstrate their willingness to help those in hospital and we are always grateful for this."
Chief executive of Black Country Women's Aid Sara Ward said: "We are really pleased to receive the eggs donated by West Bromwich Indoor Market, who recognise that the families we support have been disadvantaged by domestic violence and human trafficking and often have to go without. It is especially meaningful to us that West Brom Indoor Market are making this donation. The market is at the heart of the community and provides great value for the families we support."
Regis was one third of the famed 'Three Degrees' alongside Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson.
The trio are revered at The Hawthorns are credited with helping to bring down barriers in the fight against racism on the terraces.
Former manager Ron Atkinson famously referred to the pioneering players as the Three Degrees after the legendary US soul singers of the same name.
The trio were a key part if Albion's brilliant team of the late 70s and early 80s.
Regis scored 112 goals in 301 appearances for the Baggies.
He became a particular hero during his seven years at The Hawthorns, helping fire the club to third and fourth-place finishes in the top tier.
Plans are still in the works to unveil a statue honouring the Three Degrees.
They have been in the pipeline for nearly three years but have so far not come to fruition.
The bronze statue has been mooted for a spot in West Bromwich town centre, near New Square shopping centre featuring the trailblazing trio.s.
