Demi Nicholson, 21, died on the M6 northbound between junctions nine for Great Barr and 10 for Walsall when her Vauxhall Corsa was involved in a crash with a blue BMW.

She was travelling from her home in Gloucester to Liverpool after the Christmas break when the incident happened at around 11.15pm on January 6.

The driver of the blue BMW has now been interviewed under caution, it was revealed yesterday, but the investigation is still ongoing and no-one has been arrested.

Investigating officer Pc Alex Rippon, from West Midlands Police, told the Black Country Coroner's Court in Oldbury: "The driver of the BMW that was involved has now been interviewed under caution. He has given his account and I have completed CCTV inquiries and got witness statements from other drivers.

"I am still waiting for the forensic reconstruction report to come back then once I am in receipt of that it will be taken to the pathologist to complete his final statement. There is still a couple of outstanding witness statements as well.

"After that it will be written up for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to make a charge decision. It depends on the pathologist but I hope to have it with the CPS in the next couple of months."

Assistant coroner David Urpeth thanked Pc Rippon for his assistance and said the coroner's court would keep this case 'under review' and if needs be set up another date for an update.
