School Road in Rugeley was defaced with offensive language and a drawing just around the corner from the nearby Western Springs Primary.

Seven separate potholes in the road had been circled in yellow spray paint with different swear words written over each one.

Residents who live nearby have said that the graffiti has been on the road since April 1.

The incident was reported to Staffordshire County Council and the school confirmed to the Express & Star that they were aware of the issue.

The authority confirmed that it would be 'obscured or completely burned off' on Friday evening.

James Bailey, commissioner for highways at Staffordshire County Council said: "We have been made aware of this issue and will be working with our contractors to ensure the graffiti is obscured or completely burned off this evening.

"Pothole repairs are prioritised depending on the risk they pose to the public—not whether they are covered in graffiti.

"As the defects themselves pose no imminent risk to safety, the repairs here will be completed as soon as resources allow and will continue to be monitored."
