Angelo's in Oldbury has been taken over by Jay Singh - who has no connections to former owner Paul Kandola.

Mr Singh has been in the fish and chip trade for around 15 years in Leicestershire before he took over Angelo's.

He said: "Having recently moved to the Oldbury area and seeing the potential that Angelo's had, I decided to take the opportunity to restore the Angelo's name and business to its former glory and reputation after it had been closed for eight months.

"We offer quality fresh food which is cooked in front of our customers.

"We assure our customers that our fish is always cooked to order so that it retains its freshness and heat from leaving our shop until the customer reaches home."

Kandola, who ran Angelo's on Birmingham Road, Oldbury, until 2015, was jailed for eight months in February after pleading guilty to 22 food hygiene offences at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Kandola, of Lower Comball, Tipton, has also been banned from managing any other food business for an indefinite period.

The new owners have revamped the premises both inside and out to give it a fresh new look.

Mr Singh said: "We have completely renovated the premises inside and outside.

"It used to be a building with horrible graffiti outside - a dull dirty colour - which hadn't been upgraded in almost 10 years.

"A new shop front has been installed and we have purchased completely new equipment. There are no remnants left of the previous owners."

Angelo's has been awarded a four-star health and hygiene rating under the new owners.

Mr Singh hopes to entice customers back to the newly revamped shop.

He said: "Our focus is to look to the future with a view to bringing back all the local customers which were lost following the actions of the previous owners.

"In addition, we are looking to attract new customers and let our menu speak for itself.

"We are confident not only in our food but also the cleanliness of our shop and we openly invite our customers to visit the shop to see our high standards of cleanliness and satisfy any concerns they may have."

A spring time special with half price on all food runs from April 19 to 30 - with a minimum £5 purchase.
