A Co-op in Halesowen is closing, having only opened a few years ago.

The shop on Manor Lane will shut this month.

Halesowen South ward Councillor David Vickers expressed his concern at the loss of the shop for residents.

Councillor Vickers said: "I am disappointed, particularly for the residents, especially the elderly. There is a nursing home across the road and another nursing home further up the road.

"It is a shame. It is taking away a much-needed facility in the area. I thought it was a well-used shop, but I guess it must not be making money."

Confirming the closure decision, a spokesman for The Midcounties Co-op, said: "After much deliberation, we have taken the decision to close our Manor Lane store on April 21.

"We are working with our colleagues to help them find alternative roles, and customers can access the same services from our Tividale, Kingswinford, Tipton and Upper Church Lane stores."
