The festive extravaganza is the first Christmas event of this scale to be held in the borough, with organisers hailing it as a success.

The festive fun started earlier this month and runs until Christmas Eve, with tickets going fast.

Councillor Richard Marshall, Sandwell Council's cabinet member for leisure, praising it for bringing back 'the old-fashioned magic of Christmas'.

"It took us six months to organise it,'' says Councillor Marshall. "We are having a fantastic response. It is the first time we've organised something this big and there's so much more than our previous festivities included. We were looking for the event to almost become a regional attraction. It's all about the old-fashioned magic of Christmas."

A variety of fun activities and attractions are available at the Christmas extravaganza, including craft stalls, treasure hunting, and festive food and drink.

There is also the chance to meet Santa Claus himself in his grotto and receive a gift, write him a letter, and meet his reindeer and other animals at Sandwell Park Farm.

The experience also includes a festive train ferrying passengers around the site, a mini German market selling gifts and food, and Christmas trees around the site. The event is modelled on the hugely successful Winter Wonderland event that packs out London's Hyde Park every year.

Tickets for adults and those over 12 are £6, and for over 60s are £3, which includes admission to Christmas at the Valley and Sandwell Park Farm.

Tickets for children aged between two and 11 cost £10, which includes admission, children's activities plus a visit to Santa including gift.

Under twos including visit to Santa and present cost £5, or for admission only are free. to book, go to www.sandwell.gov.uk/christmasatthevalley or call 0333 666 3366.
