A mobile post office parked in a pub car park is the innovative solution to the temporary closure of the Hagley branch on Worcester Road.

From Wednesday a post office van will be situated at the Station Inn, also on Worcester Road, whose manager is delighted to help ensure the community still has this important facility, particularly over the busy Christmas period.

Also delighted is chairman of Hagley Parish Council, Steve Colella, who said: "We were concerned about not having that important service for around four to five months, especially during Christmas when it is needed more than ever.

The village's branch, also on the Worcester Road, shut on November 23 for refurbishment.

The Post Office then approached Georgina Jackson, the pub manager, after identifying that her pub car park was a good alternative location.

She said: "They asked me if they could use the car park, and I was happy to help out."

The mobile post office will be parked outside the pub from 10am to 3pm every Wednesday and Friday, starting this week.

A spokesman for the Post Office confirmed the arrangements outside the pub, and said: "We expect the new branch to open in March 2017 and posters will be displayed at least two weeks before the branch opens."

The new branch is also planned to be open seven days a week from 7am to 8pm, Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings. The Post Office spokesman added that services would continue to be available at Stourbridge, Kidderminster, and Merry Hill.
