Necessary or nuisance? Your views on Wolverhampton Railway Station road closure
There has been a mixed reaction to the news that the main route to Wolverhampton's busy railway station is set to close.
Railway Drive will be closed to motorists from January 8 next year as council officials work to install a Metro line.
The plans are part of the multi-million pound Interchange project which will see the new multi-story car park, which is currently under construction, opened on the same date.
Instead of travelling up and down Railway Drive, motorists will be able to access the station via Corn Hill, where there will be an increased number of taxis installed in a new rank.
Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to travel to the station via Pipers Row and across the bridge.
Kathleen Lane, aged 69, from Perton is retired and was waiting for a taxi from the station with her dog Milly. Kathleen said: "I think it'll be a big inconvenience.
"I have mobility issues so I need to know where exactly I will be able to get to in the car. If it means more walking, then I'm afraid I won't be able to get here."
Adam Evans, aged 53, travelled to Wolverhampton from his home in Telford to visit family. He said: "I think it'll be awkward if I'm honest.
"People are used to the set-up here, and if they now have to go all the way round the back to Corn Hill to get to the station, I don't think that will go down well."
Some travellers however did feel that the plans were a good idea.
David Cotton, aged 20 of Featherstone, is a student at Birmingham University.
He said: "I do get picked up and dropped off here sometimes and it does get very busy. I think if the plans help ease congestion then it'll be a good thing."
Paul Beckett, aged 63, from Ashmore Park, who is retired, regularly travels to and from the station with his bike.
He said: "I think the council have done all they can to consult with the people they need to make the changes.
"It was the same sort of thing when we had the new bus station installed, when the bus routes all changed. I know it took people a while to get used to but they have now and it's been for the better."
