Disabled man robbed on Black Country bus for phone

A vulnerable man with Down's syndrome was robbed of his mobile phone on a bus in the Black Country.

The 35-year-old victim was travelling on the 246 bus in Brierley Hill when he was approached by a man who asked him to hand over his mobile.

When the victim - who struggles to communicate - did not respond the suspect searched through bags and pockets before stealing his phone.

Police have launched an appeal for information about the robbery, which occurred on October 20 at 3.15pm.

Investigating officer DC Gareth Homer said: "This is a shocking crime whereby a vulnerable man has been specifically targeted and we're taking this extremely seriously.

"He was very frightened by the ordeal and is struggling to come to terms with what happened.

"We are providing support to him and his family.

"I'm looking for anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who has any information to contact police at the earliest possible opportunity."
