Tragedy as Chase Terrace Technology College rocked by student's death
A school is reaching out to support students after being rocked by news of the death of one of its students.
The year 11 girl from Chase Terrace Technology College, Burntwood, died over the weekend. No further information has been given about her.
Dr Stuart Jones, headteacher at the school, told the Express & Star of the impact the news has had on the school and the community.
He said: "It's absolutely devastating. Everybody is in shock. All of our efforts are being put into giving as much support to the young people who knew this student as we can give.
"It is a massive shock for the community."
Pupils at the Bridge Cross Road school were informed of the death on Monday.
In a letter to parents and carers, Dr Jones said: "At this stage, only limited information is available but we understand that there were no suspicious circumstances.
"We have asked the students to be especially careful regarding their use of social media and to bear in mind how events can often be misrepresented. There are many young people and staff who are upset.
"The students know that all of the staff here will do their very best to support them.
"They have been informed that they can go to their year office or to the library if they feel they need someone to talk to."
