Driver walks away as car mangled in Walsall crash

A motorist had a lucky escape after smashing into a tree, leaving their car badly damaged on the wrong side of the road.

Broadway North in Walsall was closed for around an hour on Monday evening after the crash happened at around 11.15pm.

West Midlands Police called for help from West Midlands Fire Service after officers found the car with significant damage to one side of its front end.

Walsall Fire Station tweeted that 'a very lucky driver walked away from this car' after attending the scene.

West Midlands Fire Service spokesperson Matt Smith said: "We were called to the scene at Broadway North at 11:15pm to reports of a car colliding with a tree.

"Five firefighters from Walsall Fire Station were sent to the scene and saw that the car was fairly badly damaged.

"Crews left the scene at around 12pm."

West Midlands Police spokesperson Sharn Braich said: "Police were called to a road traffic accident at 11:10pm on October 31 on Broadway North in Walsall after a car crashed and ended up on the wrong side of the road.

"The road was closed for about an hour to allow for debris and oil to be cleared from the scene; it was eventually re-opened at 12.22am.

"The man was not injured and did not receive hospital treatment."
