Aldi will open its doors on the site of the demolished King Arthur pub.

In recent weeks work has progressed quickly, with the structure and the 94-space car park now in place.

A sign outside the store put up yesterday facing the road alerted motorists to the opening.

When the proposal was first made in 2015 West Midlands MEP Bill Etheridge called on council bosses to reject the scheme and for the building to be saved from the bulldozer.

Mr Etheridge, who represents Sedgley on Dudley Council, claimed the store would generate traffic on the already congested Priory Road which, he said, saw traffic often queueing as far as The Broadway at peak times.

He also said he feared the threat to local retailers and was worried about the loss of mature trees on the site. The pub was demolished in December the same year.
