Barriers set to halt traveller 'havoc' at Wolverhampton industrial sites
Road barriers will be installed at two Wolverhampton industrial sites to prevent travellers causing 'havoc' to businesses in a move set to be given the green-light today.
Firms based at Steelway Park in Wednesfield and Murdoch Road in Bilston have complained about 'reputational damage,' which has been caused by groups which have sprung up at various times this year.
One firm at the Wednesfield site, AAC Ltd, have even considered moving away if a solution is not found, according to council bosses.
Under the proposals, an electric rising kerb barrier would be installed at both locations at a cost of up to £150,000.
Companies which have been affected by the presence of travellers could be given control of the barriers.
Wednesfield North Councillor Philip Bateman welcomed the proposals.
He said: "These measures are very much needed. I think all of the Wednesfield councillors who have been concerned with this have been concerned about traveller incursions in our area.
"Incursions this year have brought havoc to businesses and industry and have been very costly."
Members of Wolverhampton council's Cabinet (Resources) Panel are expected to approve the measures at a meeting today.
