Now you can say a special thank you to your Angel of the Year, by nominating them for one of the Express & Star's Great Big Thank You Awards.

The Angel of the Year Award is aimed at recognising that special someone who has dedicated their life to helping others, be it in a professional or voluntary capacity.

They will have demonstrated loyalty, commitment and gone beyond the call of duty. It could be anyone from a carer who has looked after a friend or relative at their time of need, to a member of the emergency services making a difference every day.

Whatever they've done to make a difference to your life, or the lives of those you care about, we want to hear from you.

Express & Star editor Keith Harrison said: "This is a chance to show someone how much you appreciate their efforts.

"Instead of a simple thank you, how about saying a Great Big Thank You?

"I look forward to hearing many heartwarming stories from members of our wonderful community of readers."

Nominations are flooding in for the awards which have been backed by celebrities and politicians.

Dudley-born Sir Lenny Henry said: "There are a lot of unsung heroes out there in our communities, and it's great the Express & Star is working to recognise these heroes, whether they be superb teachers, community leaders, much-loved neighbours, young stars or just people who go about their daily lives looking to make our communities better places to be."

The latest star to throw his support behind the awards is Wolverhampton's X Factor star Joe Whelan, who recently launched his debut EP at the city's Slade Rooms.

Joe said: "I have had a lot of success since I was on the X Factor and it's great to have been part of something that recognises talent."

Labour's deputy leader Tom Watson, MP for West Bromwich East, hailed the awards as 'fantastic', while South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson, the government's new chief whip, said it was 'wonderful' to see the newspaper highlighting people for their good work.

The Great Big Thank You Awards ceremony takes place on January 19 next year at Molineux. The deadline to receive your nominations by is midnight on August 21.
