Dean Saunders: Former Wolves boss has airport parking fee waived to donate to charity
Former Aston Villa player and Wolves manager Dean Saunders will not have to pay his eye-watering parking fee – with the money instead going to charity.
The former Welsh striker left his car in the short stay car park at Birmingham Airport as he did not expect the team to go as far in the Euros as they did.
But as the team reached the semi-finals, the bill topped £1,000 – with fans even setting up a crowdfunding page to help cover the bill for him.
The airport had agreed to waive the fee for the pundit's parking if Wales got to the final, however they have now said the money will go to a good cause instead.
A spokesperson from Birmingham Airport said: "The Welsh football team have made Wales proud and did amazingly well to get to the semi-finals of the Euros.
"Birmingham Airport isn't just an airport for the Midlands but the hundreds of thousands of people from Wales who use it as their local airport each year – including Dean Saunders.
"To soften the blow for Dean, we've decided to waive his parking fee and invite him to make a donation to a charity of his choice. If he's already paid his parking, let us know and we'll make the charitable donation instead."
