Road closed by water mains burst collapse
A Bridgnorth road was blocked in both directions this morning after a water mains burst caused part of the carriageway to collapse.
The road was closed between the Kidderminster Road roundabout and Old Worcester Road.
There was queueing traffic in both directions and police were directing traffic.
Gary Parton, Shropshire Council's traffic manager, said: "A permit was agreed on an emergency basis for Severn Trent Water to work on a major mains burst at this location with temporary traffic signals.
"However, last night there were complications with a further burst/collapse of carriageway, which meant the road needed to be temporarily closed due to the limited width of the road.
"We received information later last night that a closure was no longer needed as the area had been made safe. However, on inspection early this morning, the road had been closed again.
"We're currently in discussion with Severn Trent Water in order to gain further information of when the work is scheduled to complete and the road reopened to traffic – it's hoped that this will be this morning.
"The closure location is between Kidderminster Road roundabout and Old Worcester Road, Bridgnorth.
"Both north and southbound traffic are advised to follow temporary diversion signs and seek alternative routes via the A458."
