Carl Tindall, 35, was found abandoned and unconscious in Cull Avenue, Stafford, after being injured outside a house in Plant Crescent in the town on August 22, 2015. He died in hospital two days later.

Jamie Sleigh, of St John's Road, Cannock, 36, is standing trial accused of manslaughter at Stafford Crown Court but denies the charge. Anthony Boddison, 26, of St Peter's Gardens, Stafford, and sisters Sarah Hurmson, 36, of Greig Court, Heath Hayes, and Louise Hurmson, 32, of Avenue Road, Heath Hayes, deny assisting an offender.

Consultant neuropathologist professor Safa Al-Sarraj told a jury that Mr Tindall, who was from Brocton, had suffered a blow to the back of his head.

That led to brain bruising, bleeding and haemorrhaging to his brain stem.

Professor Al-Sarraj said he could not be sure whether Mr Tindall would have been made immediately unconscious after being hit or whether it would have followed soon after.

Mr Tindall had earlier been drinking in Stafford on August 22, 'drowning his sorrows' after he had heard allegations that his girlfriend, Sarah Hurmson, had slept with Boddison. He went to Plant Crescent to confront Boddison, where prosecutors allege Sleigh hit him. Boddison and Sleigh are accused of bundling him into a car and leaving him in Cull Avenue.

The court also heard how paramedics had found Mr Tindall in Cull Avenue at 10.12pm on August 22.

One paramedic described him as having blueness around his lips.

The trial continues.
