Advertising coming to 27 roundabouts in Sandwell Council fundraising move
Advertising boards will go up at almost 30 roundabouts across the Sandwell borough under plans by bosses to protect council-run services.
A total of 27 prominent roundabouts will bear the name of businesses under the proposal by Sandwell Council.
Planning applications have been submitted for the signage at the junctions.
They include Navigation Roundabout on the Black Country New Road in Tipton, Patent Shaft Roundabout on the Black Country New Road in Wednesbury and Kelvin Way Roundabout on Bromford Lane in West Bromwich.
Great Bridge Roundabout in Tipton is also among those earmarked.
Council leader Councillor Steve Eling said: "It is hard-nosed business by a local authority fighting to save its services from budget cuts."
He added: "The bottom line is the Government cuts on our budget is putting services at risk and part of our approach to defend those services is to raise money through other means.
"Advertising boards on roundabouts is one of those means."
Councillor Eling said the boards could be taken up by one or more businesses.
The council's planning department will make a decision on the applications in the coming weeks.
