The youngsters and staff from Walsall College completed the three-day trek to raise cash for the charity which was created in Joel's memory.

Joel and his uncle Adrian Evans and grandfather Patrick Evans were killed in Tunisia last June by an IS terrorist.

The charity has been set up by his mother Suzy Richards and brother Owen.

Public services lecturer Jo Hughes, who is a friend of Ms Richards, organised the walk and said the reaction from students had been fantastic.

She said: "I asked them all who wanted to do a walk for Smile for Joel and everyone was committed to it straight away.

"It was great that they were on board with it and wanted to show their support.

"It all went really well and it was hard work as they were all carrying their kit with them for three days.

"There were lots of blisters and a few tears but it was all worth it.

"Hadrian's Wall goes up and down in places but after they had been going for a couple of days they were all committed to finishing."

All the students who took part are on public services courses at the college - training to join the police, fire services, army or other public services.

A total of around £600 has been raised so far with donation still flooding in.

A fun run has been organised in aid of the Smile for Joel charity.

It is part of an upcoming series of events for the charity and will take place in West Bromwich on September 11.

The run starts at 10am at Sandwell Valley Country Park and has been organised by Smile for Joel in partnership with Sandwell Leisure Trust and Victim Support.

There will be a competitive 5k run or a more relaxed 3k fun run, jog or even a stroll.

It is open to individuals, families and friends of all ages and abilities across the region.
