Dozens of protesters gathered in Queens Square holding placards with words of support for homeless people.

It was organised by Ben Aldred, from Wolverhampton.

Ben said: "We have come out in support for the homeless and to be here for them.

"I organised it through Facebook and set up a page for the march. I have been around the city and spoke to homeless people in the town to get to know them.

"They want help, they have been given dispersal orders from the city centre, they have got all the services in the town like soup kitchens but they are being stopped from coming in."

Dave Traxson, a psychiatrist, who was out supporting the protesters, said: "No homeless person should be doing in the fifth wealthiest country in the world, Britain.

"Some people have been forced into these circumstances.

"Homelessness can be a dramatic experience.

"Countries like Denmark provide granted housing, we should be doing the same."

Among the slogans on the placards held by the protestors were 'Everyone deserves a home', 'Are we people or statistics?' and '#No more deaths on our streets'.

Mr Aldred added there were eight other protests that took place on Friday around the country, including in Manchester, Leeds, London and Sheffield.

Protesters said they also planned to march around Wolverhampton city centre on Friday delivering their messages, and were due to finish at 5pm.
