The front of the small black hatchback was left twisted and mangled as it lay on its roof, while glass from the windscreen showered the pavement at Walstead Road West near Bescot Stadium.

The incident happened around 6am. A nearby garden wall was also left damaged with large brick blocks scattering the walkway.

The two occupants in the car managed to get out before crews from Walsall Fire Station arrived to make the scene safe.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed two ambulances attended and a woman in her 20s was treated for lower back pain but she did not go to the hospital.

Crews left the scene by 6.30am.

Walsall Fire Station posted pictures of the aftermath to its Twitter feed which said: "Two very lucky occupants conveyed to hospital #drivetoarrive."
