Sean Varden spoke out for the first time since being knifed in Campville Crescent, Stone Cross, last Wednesday. Darren Parker, aged 43, who is understood to be his step-father, died after he was also stabbed at the property.

Mr Varden, who is in his early 20s, posted on his Facebook page: "Darren Parker my hero, can't get you off my mind and would like to just tell you how much you meant to me. You helped me through my life, I mean with everything I needed help with, you were there and I'm going to make you proud and look after mom for you too."

Unemployed Demarco Martin, aged 19, of Campville Crescent, appeared at Sandwell Magistrates Court last week charged with murder and attempted murder.

Floral tributes have been left at the scene of the double stabbing.
