Man in court over 'racist assault' on doctor who was treating him

A man has appeared in court charged with racially aggravated assault against a doctor who was treating him.

Glynn Machin, aged 46, pleaded not guilty to charges of assault by beating and racially/religiously aggravated common assault against Dr Raghavendra Kamath when he appeared at Cannock Magistrates Court yesterday.

The alleged offences took place at County Hospital, run by the University Hospitals of North Midlands, on December 28 last year.

Machin, of Knight Avenue, Stafford, will face trial at Cannock Magistrates Court on June 13 this year.

University Hospitals of North Midlands was set up in the wake of the scandal-hit Stafford Hospital.

Stafford Hospital, which was renamed County Hospital, was at the centre of a £6m public inquiry into care failings.
