Claudia Visser, a pupil at Redhill School, was badly hurt when struck by a car as she crossed Grange Road, Pedmore on December 17. She remained in a coma for several days and suffered two broken legs, bleeding on the brain, a fractured skull and internal injuries.

Adnan Ajram, aged 24-year-old from Careless Green, Lye pleaded guilty to causing her serious injury by dangerous driving when he appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday.

He was remanded in custody to allow the preparation of a pre sentence report until April 19 when full details of the case are expected to be given.

But the defendant was warned by Judge Kristina Montgomery QC: "There is not doubt in my mind that the sentence you will receive will be immediate custody and of some duration."

The court also called for a detailed medical report on the progress being made by the victim to be made available at the next hearing.
