Young dog battered by burglars now on the mend
A poorly pooch beaten by cruel burglars is on the mend - after kind strangers from across the world paid off her vets bills.
Brave Mila was beaten to within an inch of her life by heartless burglars.
She was left unable to walk and found cowering in a bush after they attacked her as they attempted to rob her owner's home in Halesowen.
The little 18-month-old Bedlington terrier was repeatedly kicked in the head and left with nerve damage - which meant she couldn't put her front feet on the ground.
How could they? Burglars beat family dog to within an inch of its life and leave it unable to walk
Thousands donated to pay battered dog Mila's vets bill
But the courageous pooch is now on the mend and back with her devoted owner Julie Green after a JustGiving site set up to pay for her £1,500 vets bills smashed its target and raised a £6,624 in just a week.
Mrs Green said: "Mila is doing really well, her right leg is still weak but improving, and her left leg seems much stronger – she's walking around the house and garden and is very lively.
"She still needs lots of rest and we make sure she doesn't overdo things but we are so happy that things seem to be going so well for her.
"Without the help of everyone she may not have got this far and we are so grateful."
The money left over from the JustGiving donations will be kept for other Bedlington terriers who need treatment.
The burglars, who left empty handed, struck at the Green family home last month when 51-year-old Julie left the house with her daughter Maddie, 16. Mila was a 15th birthday present for her daughter.
Julie said after the break-in was discovered: "I'm just shocked and heartbroken that someone could do this to Mila.
"Whoever is responsible is heartless.
"She is the friendliest dog and would greet anyone - even though she is poorly she has been trying to roll over and wag her tail."
