Black Country builder died after falling from window in Qatar
A Kingswinford builder died from injuries after falling from a first-floor window of an apartment in Qatar.
David Allport, aged 57, of Larch Road, had been working the Middle Eastern country when he was found on the ground by a colleague with whom he was staying.
He was in a coma for six weeks, and looked to be improving when he suffered internal bleeding. His life support machine was switched off when it became apparent that there was nothing that could be done to save him.
David Reid, assistant coroner for Worcestershire, told Worcester Coroner's Court: "The Qatari authorities have completed their investigations. We have not received much more information.
"The circumstances are that he was 57-year-old man who was in Qatar working in the building trade while his family were in this country.
"He was staying in an apartment with a a colleague called Arthur Tyler, and other building workers.
"It is a very hot country, and the air conditioning wasn't working in the apartment, it had been faulty.
"It appears that he went to open an already open window, where there was no railing to stop him falling to the ground, but the evidence is fairly unclear.
"He fell out of that window, onto the ground below."
He added: "Mr Allport was found the next morning by Mr Tyler. He was taken to hospital, where he was in a coma for six weeks.
"Although it appeared that he was slowly making an improvement, he suffered more internal bleeding and a series of heart attacks.
"His family were told that he was brain damaged and there was nothing more that could be done for him, so his life support machine was switched off.
"He died on October 11, 2015."
Mr Reid said the cause of death was cardiac arrest as a result of septic shock caused by multiple injuries from a traumatic fall from height.
He added: "It seems to me that the evidence is so lacking that it is impossible to come to a conclusion on the balance of probability.
"I record an open conclusion in this case."
