Plans for a free car park which will be built on the site of a former neighbourhood office have been backed by transport bosses in Walsall.

Land in Buxton Road, Little Bloxwich near Lower Farm Primary School will be converted into a 19-space car park, with two spaces reserved for disabled users.

Work on the site is expected to start over Easter and will take eight to 10 weeks to complete.

Proceeds from the future sale of the near-by former Millfields Nursery School site have been ring-fenced by the cabinet to fund the new car park, which council bosses say will benefit local traders.

Councillor Adrian Andrew, deputy leader for Walsall Council, said: "It's much needed and will be a boost to traders and shoppers in the area.

"It makes a lot of sense to provide spaces for people to park their vehicles off site.

"I have pressed hard to use the funds from the sale of the former Millfields Nursery School site to provide this parking area in Little Bloxwich and I am delighted that work will be starting soon."

The council is investing £90,000 from the sale of the former nursery school site into building the new car park.
