'Stolen' car pushed into Stourbridge canal
This was the scene as a suspected stolen car was pulled from a canal in the Black Country today after reportedly being pushed in.
The Renault Scenic estate, which is believed to have been stolen, was almost completely submerged in the Stourbridge Canal, near the Wordsley Junction, this morning.
It was was reported to have been left running unattended in Fisher Street, at 6.30am.
But just over an hour later at 7.45am, a resident alerted police, after witnessing three people push the car into the canal, at Ashwood junction, before fleeing from the scene.
Passer by Steve Basterfield was walking down the canal with his granddaughter when he spotted the car. He said: "It was all a bit of scene. As I was walking down the canal I saw the Renault, which look to have just been dumped, full of water with smashed windows.
"I called the police straight away but was told they had already been made aware. An auto-rescue team arrived very soon after I called and one of the workers put on a water suit and jumped in to the canal to retrieve and drag it out."
