Disgraced police inspector out to clear his name

A disgraced police inspector is on a mission to clear his name after he was sacked for misconduct last year.

Jaswant Singh, from Stourbridge, was dismissed by a West Midlands Police disciplinary panel in November after he was found to have 'deliberately lied' to his chief inspector to try and cover up his error.

The senior officer told colleagues to 'take their time' despite officers needing urgent help as they tried to control yobs at Olivio's pizza shop in High Street.

The incident happened in February 2014.

Mr Singh has now employed solicitor Kevin Hall to launch his bid to clear his name by appealing for key witnesses.

The findings will then be put before the force's chief constable against the panel's findings.

Mr Hall said: "At approximately 2.20am on the morning of February 23, 2014 a disorder took place in the premises of Olivios Pizza, High Street, Stourbridge.

"As a result of his alleged conduct at the scene Police Inspector Jas Singh was dismissed from the West Midlands Police force and as part of his appeal against dismissal the following witnesses are urgently sought.

"Mr Singh is now hoping to secure this new witness information and change their minds about this.

"We would welcome anyone who remembers the incident and is willing to come forward and assist in the appeal process."

They are keen to locate a woman who was seen filming the incident on her phone and a door supervisor working at Olivio's who is described as West Indian, aged 35 to 45, 5ft10ins with a slight beard or moustache.

The West Midlands Police panel concluded on Mr Singh, who had 24 years service under his belt, had breached professional standards relating to honesty and integrity and said his actions 'fell short' of that expected of a senior officer. They also found he had lied about being in the pizza shop.

It was alleged in the hearing that he had gone to the wrong pizzeria, Romino's rather than Olivio's, less than 100 metres away.

However the former inspector denied the allegations.

At the time of the hearing Mr Singh did not want to comment to the Express and Star.
