Council rejects bid to reopen pub after police objection
A bid to reopen a Rugeley pub which has been shut for more than two years has been rejected by licensing chiefs.
An application was submitted to Cannock Chase Council to transfer the premises licence of the Glass Works over to a new manager.
Staffordshire Police lodged an objection to the move over the proposed management structure which would be implemented.
The council has now confirmed it has refused the bid having issued the following statement: "After hearing the evidence submitted and the representation made by the responsible authority and having considered the matters set out in the report, the application to transfer the premises licence and to vary the premises licence in order to change the designated premises supervisor be refused."
The pub shut down in November 2013 which saw 14 jobs lost.
