£36k for fire-hit Cannock parks

Two play parks destroyed in separate arson attacks will be replaced thanks to a £36,500 cash injection.

The authority has issued a plea for people to respect the new that the equipment which will be 'like for like' to that ruined by the fires at Cannock Stadium and Hayes Way sites.

Councillor Christine Mitchell, culture and sport chief on Cannock Chase Council, said "The extent of the damage caused by these two attacks is unprecedented in the district.

"The equipment at both sites is damaged beyond repair which has never been seen by the council before in any of its 42 play areas.

"Both sites are popular with local residents and their children, so it is important that they are repaired.

"I hope that the new equipment is looked after and respected in the future for the young children that get so much enjoyment out of using it."

Work will start on the play areas in the coming months.
