The 16-year-old was in collision with a silver Toyota Aygo just after 5.30pm on Thursday at the traffic light-controlled junction of Bilston Road and Farmer Way, Gospel Oak, near to the Gospel Oak Public House.

He sustained serious head injuries and continues to receive hospital treatment.

Officers have spoken to the driver of the Aygo, who stopped at the scene, and the road was closed for several hours while specialist accident reconstruction officers tried to piece together what happened.

Sergeant Alan Wood, from the Regional Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This is a busy road, particularly at this time of the day. A number of witnesses have already come forward but I would appeal to anyone else who may have seen the incident to contact us to help us establish exactly what happened."

Anyone with information should call police on 101 and quote incident log 1652 21/01/2016.
