Jailed: Cradley Heath woman crashed into two police officers
A driver from Cradley Heath who left two police officers with serious injuries after ploughing into them has been jailed.
Angela Miller crashed into the officers and a Mercedes which they had pulled over for a routine stop check on the A461 Dudley Port, Tipton.
Miller's VW Golf GTI then collided with the rear of a marked police van which had its blue lights flashing.
The 38 year-old, who was also taken to hospital after the collision, was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol but refused to give blood for analysis.
Miller, of Newpool Road, Cradley Heath, admitted failing to provide a blood sample and was sentenced to five months in jail at Sandwell Magistrates Court on Wednesday. Miller was also banned from driving for three years and 10 weeks.
A police spokesman said: "The officers, who are both in their 40s and were based in Sandwell at the time, continue to recover from their leg injuries following the collision that occurred at 1.35am on 4 January last year.
"One officer remains off work due to the severity of his injuries while the other has only just returned on restricted duties 12 months later."
PC Phil Robins, of the West Midlands Police regional collision investigation unit, added: "This was a severe collision which has caused serious injury, and trauma, to two colleagues who were carrying out their routine duties.
"We suspected Miller was a drink driver but she refused to provide a blood sample for analysis.
"This was the maximum custodial sentence that the judge could give her and in doing so he stated that he wanted this to serve as a deterrent to others.
"This collision could very easily have had even more devastating consequences and killed these officers, but thankfully they were both well enough to have been able to attend court to see the sentencing."
