Train delays after 44 ton lorry hits railway bridge
Trains services along the Snow Hill line were delayed after a lorry hit a bridge in the Black Country this afternoon.
The railway bridge was struck by the 44 ton vehicle on the A458 Stourbridge Road, between Stourbridge Junction and Lye stations.
The accident happened at 3pm and temporarily closed the road between Hungary Hill and Cemetery Road.
The crash caused rush hour delays on the trains and also diverted the number nine West Midlands Travel Bus service in both directions.
Firefighers were sent from Brierley Hill to assess the lorry and remained at the scene late into the afternoon.
Neil Spencer, spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service, said: "We were called at 3.01pm by West Midlands Police after an articulated lorry collided with a railway bridge.
"The 44 ton lorry was carrying 100 empty barrels as its cargo.
"Trains were asked to reduce their speeds while running over the bridge while we helped to assess the state of play.
"The lorry was removed by the company and taken to a nearby depot. A railway incident officer was also called."
