Wolverhampton gas explosion: Pensioner released from hospital as fundraising reaches £2,000
A fund set up to help a pensioner who had a miraculous escape after a gas explosion at her home has raised more than £2,000.
Well-wishers have donated £2,355 to the fund for Wendy Ayoub, who was saved by her washing machine when her house on Penn Road collapsed on to her following the explosion on December 28.
The 73-year-old received minor injuries following the blast and was discharged from Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital yesterday.
Mrs Ayoub, aged 73, suffered cuts and bruises and a broken ankle.
People have also donated cash and useful items, and an estate agent has even offered a rent-free flat after her house crumbled around her following the horror incident.
Emergency teams found Mrs Ayoub after they heard her calling out for help and pulled her from the rubble.
Following the explosion Ms Ayoub joked that her 'Bosch' saved her life.
In a statement released through New Cross Hospital she said she was recovering well and thanked the emergency services and hospital staff.
People can still pledge money to help Ms Ayoub at www.gofundme.com/wendy-sfund
