Dramatic pub raid caught on CCTV
Hammer and baseball wielding burglars smashed there way into a pub and left less than 30 seconds later with a haul of cash.
The raid at the Shire Oak was captured by dramatic CCTV footage which has been passed to police.
The venue had a £350,000 revamp in the autumn.
At 4.07am on Sunday, a camera inside the pub based on Lichfield Road in Brownhills caught two men using their weapons to force the door causing glass debris to shatter on to floor.
The pair then kicked there way through and entered the ground floor of the premises.
They left after 25 seconds with a tray from the till containing an unknown amount of cash.
The burglars did not get into the residential part of the building where the current owners live.
Both men were wearing white or lightly coloured tracksuits with hoods covering their faces, while the one holding a hammer wore white trainers and black gloves, while the burglar wielding the bat had light coloured trainers with what appears to be white reflective Adidas stripes.
It is suspected the pair fled the area in a black MG car with no number plates.
West Midlands Police spokesman Brigg Ford said: "We got the call on Sunday morning reporting that the pub had been broken into overnight.
"Glass panels on a door had been smashed and a cash drawer from the till had been taken.
"It is not clear how much was taken.
"We are currently examining CCTV.
"The owners live above but they did not get into the residential part.
"The owners discovered what had happened in the morning when they come downstairs."
The owners did not wish to comment when approached by the Express & Star.
The Shire Oak was one of four pubs in the Walsall and Cannock area to receive £1million worth of investment from Punch Taverns last year.
It reopened in November following the revamp which saw a new layout with designated dining and drinking areas.
The raid comes after a pub in nearby Great Wyrley was targeted in an unrelated break-in shortly before Christmas.
Two people were charged in connection with the burglary at The Wheatsheaf on December 23 as well as a break-in at Superdrug in Willenhall on the same say.
The pair are set to appear in court again in March.
