Permission has been granted by Sandwell Council for the derelict old Mill Pub in Beaconview Road.

An application was submitted by developer Mr S Singh for the land back in October.

The scheme was given the green light yesterday by council planners.

The pub was built in the 1960s but fell into disrepair and was targeted by arsonists and abandoned in 2010, before being bulldozed in March 2014.

A petition was signed by more than 300 residents at the time calling for the eyesore pub to be pulled down.

The new development is made up of a selection of detached and semi-detached two-storey homes.

According to the planning application, the proposals would help rejuvenate the local area.

The report states: "Currently the former pub site, now completely open and clear of any buildings, and the adjacent single storey chippy, add nothing to the street scene.

"The site provides a good opportunity for improving the neighbourhood by adding a substantial building or buildings at the junction."

Permission was granted by the council with 14 conditions.
