Walsall food store opens to create 30 jobs
The first phase of Walsall's Old Square Shopping Centre regeneration scheme has been completed with the launch of a new food store, creating 30 jobs in the town.
The Midcounties Co-operative Food store opened in Walsall town centre on Friday and is the final part of a multi-million pound project to revamp the St Matthews Quarter and attract further investment.
Walsall Council leader Mike Bird cut the ribbon to the new 7,000 sq ft store to mark its grand opening and children from Charles Cody School joined in the celebrations, before being given a tour of the store.
Councillor Bird said: "The food store will give shoppers an alternative to those already available in the town centre.
"The redevelopment has been a huge investment by the Council and a great boost to the town. Footfall in the area has risen significantly."
