Walsall South MP Valerie Vaz joined forces with campaigners outside Pleck Library, on Darlaston Road, in a bid to keep it open.

She said: "It will be devastating for this community if the library was to close.

"It is a vital for education and local residents young and old."

The library was earmarked for closure along with others in the borough as part of the council's bid to save £25 million.

A petition opposing the closure has already gained more than 3,000 names.
