City centre kebab shop in trouble for failing to keep CCTV footage

A city centre kebab shop has been warned it has breached the terms of its licence by failing to keep CCTV footage for the required amount of time.

Police and council officers visited Caspian Kebab & Pizza in Broad Street, Wolverhampton, on September 26 and inspected the shop's CCTV system.

It was found to record for two to three days before being wiped, instead of the 30 days stipulated by the shop's licence.

The shop's owner, Mr Ahmadei, has applied to Wolverhampton council to have the premises licence transferred to his name.

A letter from the licensing department at Wolverhampton Police Station to the council said Mr Ahmadei confirmed he was overseeing the premises when the multi-agency visit had taken place.

The letter said: "Mr Ahmadei conceded that he knew nothing of the operation or the workings of the CCTV system. He further conceded he didn't accept he was responsible for this aspect of the business, and he thought the landlord should be responsible."

The letter added that when police requested a month's worth of footage spanning part of November and December Mr Ahmadei had said he would 'speak with staff members' to get the footage.

"No footage has been forthcoming to date," the letter added.

Mr Ahmadei was also said to have requested the shop stay open later than the licence dictates, which police said indicated that he 'did not seem able to grasp the concept that the specified licence determines the operating hours'.

Wolverhampton council's licensing sub-committee is due to hear the application on January 5.
