Crews were called to a house in Hamilton Street, Bloxwich, around 7.30pm this evening.

The girl's burns were less than one per cent but she was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

A crew from Bloxwich attended while another from Walsall arrived as back up.

The fire was out on arrival but firefighters stayed on site for around 40 minutes ventilating the property.

The kitchen suffered smoke damage as a result of the flames.

Crew commander Richard Cooper, from Bloxwich fire station, said: "We would advise people to avoid using chip pans if possible, deep fat fryers or oven chips are safer.

"The people living there shut the kitchen door which was the right thing to do because it confined the smoke to the kitchen.

"By doing that it reduces oxygen and stops the fire and smoke spreading."
