WATCH: Wolves skipper Danny Batth sells Big Issue on city centre streets
Wolves player Danny Batth hit the streets of the city to sell copies of the Big Issue, raising money and awareness for the homeless.
Batth, who donned a red seller jacket and posed for pictures, sold 125 copies of the magazine in two hours, raising £156.25 for the homeless vendors in the city.
The club skipper was selling the street magazine outside the club shop on the High Street on Saturday, the day after Wolves were held to a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest at Molineux.
Batth said: "I had my red bib on, the Big Issue bib, and we've been outside selling copies of the Big Issue.
"I think it was 125 issues we sold so that's obviously a positive for the people who are going to receive the money who are usually on the streets and struggling.
"When we first started we were blending in on the street and only sold six copies, so you can see how difficult it is for these people day in, day out."
He added: "Homelessness is definitely a problem in Wolverhampton.
"I think in the whole of the UK there's a lot of homeless people, it's a big issue. People in unfortunate positions as well it's nice to help them out.
"The fans were good, really good. They were all really positive and they all supported the cause and that's great. It's good to see that people are really taking on board the situation and they'll maybe learn something by reading the Big Issue.
"It was a positive thing and obviously I hope the people will go away with the Big Issue and people will read about the way it helps people get back on their feet.
"One of the vendors I spoke to had been selling the Big Issue for 10 years and so, as you can imagine, it has obviously kept her going, fed her, and it's her way of life so hopefully the more support they get the better their circumstances will be."
Batth did not rule out he would return to the streets to help those who are homeless in the city.
He said: "I will certainly do more. It's definitely an eye-opener and it shows how much you can achieve in a short space of time, so hopefully it'll be something good and positive for the future."
