Eleven rescued from Wednesbury flat blaze
Two people were rescued from a roof and nine others were led to safety by emergency crews during a flat fire in Wednesbury.
The blaze also forced the closure of a road while it was being dealt with.
The fire was reported on the third floor of flats on Spring Head yesterday morning at around 6am.
One fire engine from Wednesbury fire station and one from West Bromwich attended the scene.
Three minutes later they put a request in for more crews, with one arriving from Walsall and one from Tipton.
A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "Two persons were rescued from a side premises roof with an extension ladder.
"They were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
"Nine people were led to safety," he added.
The fire service contained the fire to the original room, but half of the property was filled by smoke and had to be ventilated.
The 11 people were led back inside the premises just after 7am. Crews returned later on in the morning to complete some checks in better light, and the incident was closed at 9.15am yesterday morning.
