The M54 has re-opened after the weekend closure between junction 3 and junction 2, but one lane of the eastbound carriageway remains closed.

The outside lane is now open for drivers after the eastbound route was shut completely between the Cosford and Wolverhampton exits.

Traffic remains heavy as a result, with delays reaching up to 20 minutes during rush hour.

Closures have been in place for two weeks while emergency work to replace damaged concrete slabs is carried out.

The road was due to fully re-open today but the hard shoulder and one lane will continue to be closed, with Highways England yet to confirm when the work will be completed.

Drivers are advised to exit the motorway at junction 3 to avoid congestion.

Frank Bird, Highways England emergency planning officer for the Midlands region said: "Our engineers have been working round the clock over the weekend, but the work has been affected by very bad weather."
